A look inside Medely: Who we are and what we are doing

A few weeks ago, we announced Medely – a platform that makes it easy for nurses and other healthcare professionals to access high-paying jobs anytime they want.

We want to thank everyone who signed up and completed the application process! We will be fully launched soon, so we thought it would be a good time to give you a sneak peek at the team behind revolutionizing the healthcare staffing industry.

Our mission is to use technology to reinvent what’s currently thought of as healthcare staffing by putting the power into the hands of healthcare professionals.

What makes Medely unique is that we have some major differences from traditional healthcare staffing solutions:

1. Simplicity: By eliminating the middleman model of a traditional staffing agency, we are allowing healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities to work together to fulfill open shifts quickly and more efficiently. Lines of communications are now direct, resulting in quicker fill times and lower costs.

2. Transparency: Out-of-control agency costs are eliminated as we offer straight forward flat rate pricing that is visible and transparent. What you see is what you pay.

3. Trust & Safety: Every Medely Professional is deeply background-checked and personally vetted. Beyond that, only 15 percent of applicants have been allowed onto the platform ensuring the best nurses are fulfilling open jobs.

So how does Medely work?

We’ve created a beautifully simple platform that allows healthcare facilities to post available shifts while the professionals instantly receive notifications of these open jobs or shifts anytime, anywhere. Medely provides the tools and platform needed to allow an open and transparent environment which is desperately lacking in today’s staffing industry.  Payments are also made directly through the platform in an open and transparent way. Facilities pay an easy flat-rate, allowing them to know their costs upfront and avoid additional or outrageous agency fees.

Additionally, healthcare professionals know exactly what they are getting. Payments are processed immediately after each shift and deposited into their bank accounts.

Who are we?

Our team is just a group of people looking to change the way things are done in the staffing industry. Inspired by our CNO (Chief Nursing Officer), Angie Nasr, we assembled an incredible team of people working tirelessly to build a software that does everything we promise – and each and every one of our team members is dedicated to the task. Here is a look into our workspace as we grind away each day to make Medely the best experience for our nurses as possible.

Why a Marketplace for Healthcare Staffing was necessary… and Inevitable

There is no doubt about it. Staffing agencies serve a vital role in todays business world. With wild fluctuations in today’s economies, businesses are having harder times understanding and tuning their hiring to match demand or lack thereof. This is where staffing agencies have long filled the void.

Staffing agencies have been around for a long time. One of the oldest references to a public employment agency was in 1650, when Henry Robinson proposed an “Office of Addresses and Encounters” that would link employers to workers.[1] The problem is, they don’t seem like they have changed a lot since then.  There are many problems plaguing the staffing industry today ranging from poor recruiting practices, inefficient placement process, complete lack of innovation and extremely unnecessary cost burdens on the business as well as the employee.

As a result, Medely was born as a way to not only correct these inefficiencies but to breath new life into a stagnant industry. We sat back and took a long hard look at what we could do and what we could change to make the process of Healthcare staffing less of a burden on businesses and more engaging and rewarding for employees. We are living in an On-demand economy and that requires innovation and here is what we did:

  1. Huge opportunity for Technology

Healthcare staffing today is built upon local brick and mortar operations. They’re cluttered with inefficiencies as many still use  paper time sheets and excel sheets to manage their healthcare professionals availabilities. Communication between the agency and professional is archaic at best relying on back and forth phone calls to find available candidates to fulfill positions. Medely is a platform built on technology from the ground up to disrupt this space with an On-Demand workforce, ready to accept and fulfill any job at anytime at a moments notice. No longer is an agency middleman needed to serve as a bottleneck between the business and the employee.  Healthcare facilities can now post open positions directly to a pool of vetted and talented On-Demand Medely Nurses who can accept and be able to complete the job on a moments notice.

    2.  Payment

Let’s face it. Long payment cycles are a thing of the past. With an emergence on new payment processing technologies, people can and expect to get paid for their work quicker than ever. We at Medely saw this as an impediment to a satisfied workforce. That’s why one of our main criteria was to implement and integrate a payment platform that allows our healthcare professionals to be paid 24-48 hours after a job is completed directly into their personal bank accounts. ?????

    3.  Huge cost savings

As automation is a key driver for what we do here at Medely, a net result has been the ability to drive down costs associated with staffing. With typical healthcare staffing agencies billing  50% to 100% above what their health professionals are paid, it’s no wonder why so many healthcare facilities are gun-shy about using agencies. Medely is a simple fee-based model built on transparency and trust. What you sign up for is what you pay for, Simple as that.

The healthcare staffing is looking for a change. We at Medely are taking advantage of this growing need and applying exciting technologies and best practices of the on-demand economy to better serve the needs of not only the business and  professional’s but the industry as a whole.

How to keep a clean workplace

An cluttered workplace is a cluttered mind and as they say, cleanliness is next to Godliness!

Unless you’re one of those people who need chaos to survive, having a cluttered and disorganized workspace is one of the major factors of an unproductive workday.

In a 2014 study of male and female millionaires, Dr. Jude Miller Burke, career expert and author of The Millionaire Mystique, found that a calm and uncluttered mind is essential to success.

So, what can you do? Here are a few steps we take every quarter at Medely to keep our desks and our minds clear:

  1. The Great Purge: Yes, you know it has to be done. That drawer you have filled with all the junk that you know you don’t need but cant seem to throw away. Ask yourself when the last time you used any of it and if your answer is longer than a month then most likely you don’t need it. Take that long brave walk and just dump it. As they say, when in doubt… throw it out!
  2. Don’t eat at your desk: Your desk is your sanctuary. Your home away from home, so to speak. Nothing can make a workplace more uninviting to you and your colleagues than a messy, crumb-filled desk. The only things you’re aiming to invite by doing this are nasty little critters. So take your lunch to the lunchroom or, better yet, take it outside under a tree or to a bench. Besides, a little vitamin D couldn’t hurt.
  3. Add a flower:  All of our desks at Medely have a small vase and flower. A Harvard university study has shown that flowers in the workplace have proven to lower anxiety, feed compassion, and increase productivity. Additionally, flowers in the workplace have been shown to boost happiness amongst workers. We at Medely believe flowers are nature’s art, so make your desk a canvas and start painting!

Keeping employees motivated during the summer doldrums.

It affects even the most powerful of us.

Oh the hot lazy days of summer. We all know how it feels. Sitting in your office chair, staring outside the window and hoping to feel the warmth of the sun hitting your face, only to feel the cold chilling blasts of the AC unit.

Summer can be a difficult time keeping your employees motivated but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find unique and inventive ways to change-up the environment to keep work fresh and exciting.

Here are a 3 tips we at Medely like to implement to keep us a little bit sane!

  1. Take the meeting outdoors – We sit at our desks all day only to be forced to go into small, dark and uninviting rooms called “Conference Rooms”‘ to conduct endless meetings. Try taking the meetings outside for a change. Its been proven that a shot of Vitamin D from the sun can re-energize your mind and your overall well-being. We will live in a world full of amazing technology that allows us to roam around and do work. So unplug those cables and take some meetings under a tree or on a park bench.
  2. Hold after work Happy Hour Events – Nothing helps release the stress of work more than a nice happy hour session with your team. Take advantage of this time and gather your team for to just talk about life and other meaningful things. Stay away from work conversations as the whole idea is to get your mind off of it. This will help the team engage in refreshing conversations and form cohesive friendships that will translate to a better work environment.
  3. Allow employees to leave early Friday – Friday is a drag. So close to the weekend yet still so far away. You just have to get through these 8 hours but it feels like a whole week again. According to a study conducted by getflow.com, Friday is the least productive day of the week. That no surprise at all but what is surprising is by how much.

Friday Slump sees:

  • 35% fewer tasks created
  • 28% fewer tasks delegated from one team member to another
  • 25% fewer comments posted
  • 35% fewer tasks completed

So we say that it’s always a good idea to allow your employees to leave early on Fridays. It doesn’t have to be every week but it can be every other Friday. Surprisingly we found that when we tell our employees they can leave early on Friday, they would push harder through the day to finish up what the needed to do. Besides, we all remember how seniorities felt. This is pretty much the same thing except it occurs weekly.

These tips are some of the things we do at Medely to keep our employees happy, engaged and slightly sane. Its worked great for us at Medely, so give it a shot and let us know what you think. better yet, let us know what you do!
